South Korea acquires new missile submarine

South Korean company “DSME” announced that it has delivered a new KSS-III class submarine to the South Korean Navy.

In 2012, DSME won a $1.56 billion contract to manufacture two KSS-III class submarines for the Navy. Each KSS-III submarine is about 83.5 metres long and 9.6 metres wide, has a water displacement of 3,700 tons, can move at a speed of 20 knots underwater, travel up to 10,000 miles per mission, and operate for 50 days without needing to refuel or resupply.

Moreover, these submarines are armed with platforms for launching winged missiles and 533 mm torpedo launchers.
