The UAE commemorates a great occasion every year on January 6th – the unification of the Air Force and Defence, also known as Unity Day. This marks the formation of the first Air Defence Command in the Abu Dhabi Defence Force.
This annual celebration commemorates the long, achievement-filled journey of the Air Force and Defence in our beloved country, as well as the accomplishments of our valiant Armed Forces across various domains.
Those valiant forces have played a prominent role in protecting the country’s capabilities, defending its security and stability in the face of all threats.
The concept of unity was always on the mind of the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who believed from the start that the state’s destiny, survival and development depended on its unity.
Thus, he began making decisions to ensure unity among the emirates, including unifying their armed forces to serve as a shield and sword for the nation. Hence, the decision to unify the Air Force and Defence in 1974, paved the way for the Armed Forces’ unification in 1976.
This kicked off an era of prosperity and progress for the UAE Armed Forces, elevating them to their current standing of strength, professionalism and advancement.
The Air Force and Defence rightfully constitute a main component of the UAE Armed Forces and a true source of national pride.
Recently, they have undergone major developments and under the directives of our wise leadership, they were equipped with the latest and finest weaponry so they can defend the homeland and the gains made there, given the surrounding challenges and dangers.
Since its establishment, the UAE has been keen to advance its Armed Forces, especially the Air Force and Defence, supplying them with a range of sophisticated weapons.
Moreover, this has extended to the Emirati military industries, which garnered regional and global appreciation and respect.
Thanks to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Air Force and Defence now possess optimum vigilance and readiness to defend the nation, preserving its security, prosperity and stability.
This has enabled our beloved country to lead developmental indicators worldwide.
