Women in the UAE hold an esteemed position, thus the wise leadership designated the 28th of August each year as Emirati Women’s Day.
This day celebrates women’s significant roles and immense sacrifices across various fields, acknowledging their unlimited contributions to nation-building and serving the country.
Chosen by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak (Mother of the Nation), this date marks the beginning of the Supreme Council for Women’s work in 1975.
As essential partners to men, Emirati women play a significant role in the development of society and the progress and prosperity of our beloved nation.
Historically, before the formation of the union, Emirati women played active roles in caring for their families, raising children, and managing household affairs.
After the establishment of the union, women’s roles in society expanded, participating in various fields of work, holding numerous jobs, and advancing in ranks.
Many women have attained leadership positions, serving as ministers, members of the National Council, doctors, teachers, engineers, and many other roles, achieving significant success recognised by all.
Since the era of the late founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s wise leadership has placed great emphasis on women, empowering them to face challenges, shape the future and achieve a high status.
Consequently, the UAE has ranked first globally in respecting women and preserving their dignity, and first in the Arab world for empowering women in leadership and parliamentary roles.
Emirati women rightfully take pride in their achievements across various fields. They continue to contribute and innovate under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who believes in women’s capabilities and their vital role in the state’s progress and development.
The UAE is a global model in protecting women’s rights and dignity, having enacted constitutional laws supporting women and a series of federal laws ensuring equal opportunities between men and women. The UAE has ranked 18th globally and first in the Arab world in the Gender Equality Index.
