China has successfully tested a new aircraft that combines a stealth fighter jet with two detachable drones.
The stealth fighter, equipped with a twin-turbine engine and an integrated delta-wing body, performed a manoeuvre during the test flight. Sections of each wing detached from the main aircraft, transforming into two “flying wing” drones powered by electric propellers.
Despite the sudden reduction in wing area and the shift in the aircraft’s centre of gravity, both the fighter jet and the drones quickly stabilized, demonstrating the effectiveness of the aerodynamic design and automated control algorithms.
The successful test flight has validated a new concept for the next generation of Chinese Air Force fighter jets.
