Turkey’s SAVER Savunma has unveiled its latest naval weapon system: the 40mm THUNDERBOLT cannon. This twin-barrel naval gun aims to meet the Turkish Navy’s demand for domestically manufactured defence technology.
The THUNDERBOLT cannon has impressive capabilities, firing at a rate of 300 rounds per minute per barrel, with a maximum range of 12.5 kilometres. The cannon also boasts a 60-round ready magazine, supported by an additional 680 rounds stored on board.
Turkey’s pursuit of domestic defence production has accelerated in recent years due to challenges in acquiring critical defence equipment from international partners, often complicated by political tensions.
By investing in local defence manufacturing, Turkey gains the ability to secure essential weapons systems without risking delays, cancellations, or cost increases associated with foreign suppliers.
