China Develops New Hypersonic Glide Vehicle

The Guangdong Aerodynamic Research Academy, located in southern China, has unveiled the design of its latest hypersonic glide vehicle, the GDF-600. This cutting-edge system boasts several features unprecedented in similar technologies.

China is currently at the forefront of developing hypersonic glide vehicles, outpacing global competitors. While nations like Russia and North Korea also utilise such systems, China’s technological dominance, particularly in fields like material science, has enabled it to create innovative applications for this advanced technology.

Traditionally, hypersonic glide vehicles are known for their ability to deliver payloads, including nuclear warheads, to targets at incredibly high speeds with exceptional manoeuvrability. This makes them nearly impossible to intercept, cementing their strategic value in modern defence systems.
