India Develops Long-Range Laser Weapon

India is developing a 300-kilowatt laser weapon system, known as Surya, designed to enhance its defensive capabilities in modern warfare. With an operational range of 20 kilometres, the system aligns with the global push toward laser-based military technologies.

The Surya is engineered to detect, track, and neutralise airborne threats, including drones, missiles, and other aerial projectiles, using high-energy laser beams to disable or destroy targets.

As the threat from unmanned aerial systems and precision-guided munitions continues to grow, the Surya laser weapon is expected to play a critical role in India’s air defence strategy, providing a cost-effective and rapid-response solution against modern threats.
