Brazil Successfully Tests New Military Submarine

Brazil has successfully conducted tests on its new Riachuelo military submarine, developed for the country’s navy.

The submarine underwent a “static dive” process to assess its capabilities, including the functionality of its onboard rescue chamber, designed to enable the crew to evacuate in case surfacing becomes impossible.

The Riachuelo measures 70.6 metres in length, 6 metres in width, and has a displacement of 2,000 tonnes. It can travel at a speed of 21 knots, accommodate a crew of 35, and dive to depths of up to 300 metres.

Armed with 18 torpedoes of 533-mm calibre and anti-ship missiles, the Riachuelo is a formidable addition to Brazil’s naval fleet, capable of engaging a wide range of maritime targets effectively.
