Chinese media reported that a private satellite company recently launched a smart satellite factory in Tangshan, Hebei Province, north China.
Comsat, which owns the plant, said that the plant, which will start production early next year, will produce more than 100 satellites each weighing more than 100 kg annually. Thus, Comsat is the first commercial space organization in China to develop and operate satellites weighing more than 100 kg.
The company said that the plant will produce smart equipment, such as autonomously guided vehicles, to ensure mass production of satellites weighing between 50 and 500 kg in a short period and at a low cost.
The construction of satellite factories is expected to improve the production capacity of domestic satellites and promote the development of satellite Internet.
The company also plans to build a satellite payload plant in Yibin City, in the southwestern Sichuan Province.
