The French army is preparing to use a new military armored vehicle to transport its soldiers, which is described as the “crab armored”, and has the ability to travel in all directions.”
The “Crab” or “Scarabee” armored military vehicle was developed by Sweden’s Volvo Group to be fast, stealthy, and highly maneuverable. Plus, it has two engines (one electric, one diesel), is remotely-controllable, and is able to carry over two tons of equipment, including weapons. It’s even transportable and droppable from a low height, sans parachute, by plane.
In addition to its ability to run sideways like a crab, it can travel at a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour, weighs 6.6 tons, and is 6 meters long.
Volvo has focused on developing speed, because it is part of the protection, and the new side drive method makes it uniquely evasive.
