India Develops Advanced Air Defence Missile

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced the development of an advanced portable air defence missile. This new system may rival and even surpass the capabilities of the renowned American FIM-92 Stinger missile.

The Indian missile, VSHORADS, is a fourth-generation system that requires a tripod mount, while the Stinger is a third-generation system with a fourth-generation variant under development.

The most promising feature of this new missile is its Imaging Infrared (IIR) guidance system, which offers an effective range of 6 km and the ability to distinguish targets from decoys accurately.

This advanced sensing technology enables more effective detection and tracking of targets, even under sophisticated countermeasure conditions.
