India Tests New Locally Manufactured Torpedoes

The Indian Navy recently announced a successful test of a new indigenous naval torpedo.

The Navy stated, “During recent tests, the Indian Navy successfully hit an underwater target with a heavyweight 533 mm torpedo, developed in India. This historic achievement reflects the growing defence capabilities of India and underscores the fruitful collaboration between the Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).”

Sources suggest that the Indian Navy will continue to collaborate with DRDO to enhance the performance and reliability of the mentioned torpedo.

According to reports, India is developing new torpedoes for use with the Kalvari-class submarines, of which it currently has four in its fleet, armed with SUT 266 torpedoes.
