M270 (MLRS) Range to be upgraded

The British Army said it will embark on a five-year program to modernize the M270 Rocket Launcher (MLRS) systems, and will carry out upgrades to 44 launch systems, which are currently in service.

Building on long-term cooperation with the United States and key allies, work will begin to upgrade the first tranche of launch systems in March 2022, with the fleet continuing production over a period of four years. The upgrades will keep the equipment in service until 2050.

It is understood that the work will be performed under an existing production contract with Lockheed Martin Missile and Firefighting Company with work being carried out at the Red River Army Depot and Lockheed Martin facility in Camden, Arkansas.
