Russia Tests New Nuclear-Powered Cruise Missile Submarine

Russia has begun testing a new “Yasen-M” class nuclear-powered submarine. This type of submarine can dive to a depth of 600 metres, carry a crew of 90, and operate for 100 days without needing to resupply.

These submarines are armed with platforms for launching Russian “Onyx” and “Kalibr” cruise missiles, as well as 533mm torpedo launchers.

In the future, they are expected to be capable of launching hypersonic “Zirkon” missiles.
