Spain tests upgraded submarine

Spain has started testing one of its S-71 Galerna diesel-electric submarines that have undergone major repairs and upgrades.

The Galerna is the main submarine in the Agosta-class submarines built by Spain in the 1980s.

Spain has 4 Agosta-class submarines, each is 67 m long and 6 m wide, with a water displacement rate of 1760 tons.

These submarines can move at a speed of 20.5 knots, and has a range of 8,500 nautical miles on each mission.

Each Agosta-class submarine is armed with different torpedoes, including 533 mm torpedoes, naval mines, and SM-39 Exocet anti-ship missiles.
