The United States has conducted a test launch of an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from Vandenberg Space Force Base. The missile, a Minuteman III, is the third version of the LGM-30G Minuteman series.
The Minuteman III is a critical component of the US nuclear deterrence strategy, forming the land-based leg of the US nuclear triad, alongside the submarine-launched Trident II ballistic missiles and the nuclear weapons carried by long-range strategic bombers.
This missile can carry multiple warheads, allowing it to strike targets that are significantly distant from each other.
