The US military is seeking to obtain drones that operate with a small number of people in confined spaces, without the need for a runway, and can carry out aerial reconnaissance and monitor enemy targets, and equipped with a “GPS-denied navigation” system – navigation technology that does not rely on GPS signals and that it is rapidly deployed.
One of the most prominent candidates as an alternative to the Shadow drone is the improved V-BAT drone model.
The V-BAT weighs 38 kilograms with a full fuel tank. It can fly for 8 hours straight, with an additional fuel reserve of an hour, and has a top speed of 167 km/h, and it can fly at an altitude of 15,000 feet.
