Our flag…our eternal banner and symbol

When we talk about our flag and the symbol of our renaissance, we talk about our history and our ancient glories that our leaders wrote for us, and built a homeland, like no other, for us, through their sacrifices and giving. A homeland that provides happiness, well-being and decent life to its people, and enhances the capabilities of its citizens.

I narrated that introduction simply because we nowadays live beautiful days adorned with Flag Day and its creative initiatives, which the young and old await, a national occasion par excellence, sending sublime messages, which express love for the homeland and belonging to it and respect for the flag, the symbol of our strength and the symbol of our lofty union, a day when souls transcend and meet, young and old of all nationalities celebrating the flag of the United Arab Emirates, drawing through it the message of tolerance, coexistence, and respect and appreciation of human beings.

Yes, the flag of the United Arab Emirates is a symbol of an exceptional union. It was raised by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and His “Brothers”, Rulers of the emirates, for the first time on December 2, 1971, in the Union House in the Emirate of Dubai. By raising it, the birth of the Emirates was announced. The United Arab Emirates, a sovereign and independent state, is an eternal symbol of a country that has been able to advance its science, civilization, economy and global competitiveness.

One of our duties towards the flag of our dear country is to preserve it and raise it high and lofty, with full commitment to the regulations and laws imposed by the state regarding the flag, in addition to learning the flag protocol, so that it can be used in national forums and occasions in the correct form and time, while standing with reverence and respect for our flag, a symbol of our union when listening to national anthem.

And what I see very clearly is full awareness of the people of the Emirates to respect and preserve the State flag, which was nothing but the product of thought and aspirations of our exceptional leadership, which dedicated that national day as the Flag Day, to confirm the importance of that immortal symbol, and the need to commit to raising it high. What also caught my attention while we were organizing the Flag Day in one of the recent years, the children’s interest in raising the flag, and how a child residing on the land of the UAE warned his friend to raise the flag from the ground, giving a lesson to everyone that the flag is a symbol of the people of the Emirates, citizens and residents, a symbol of their pride, stability and affiliation. So, it’s no surprise to see this in a state that preserved the human rights of its residents, emphasized the importance of strengthening their capabilities and respected them, and even made them a part of this country, which is represented by good citizenship that includes everyone. Congratulations to our dear homeland, may our flag remain high and lofty, and our homeland safe and secure.
