Plant-Based Milk Alternatives

Plant-based milk alternatives are a good option for individuals allergic to cow’s milk or lactose intolerant, the Consumer Protection Centre of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany has stated.

Types and Caloric Content

The centre explained that almond and coconut milk are low in calories, with their caloric values ranging between 13 and 21 calories per 100 millilitres. These values apply to unsweetened varieties.

In contrast, soy milk contains an average of 38 calories per 100 millilitres. Soy milk stands out from alternatives by its high-quality protein content, owing to its high proportion of essential amino acids.

For comparison, whole milk contains approximately 65 calories per 100 millilitres, while low-fat milk contains around 45 calories per 100 millilitres.
