Turkey has expanded its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capabilities with the introduction of MERKÜT, a combat-ready drone now prepared for operational deployment.
The MERKÜT features a flight endurance of up to 20 minutes and an operational range of 8 kilometres. It is equipped with a guided fragmentation warhead containing approximately 950 striking elements.
One of its key features is an automated detonator, allowing operators to set the explosion distance between 20 centimetres and 5 metres. This precision targeting system enhances accuracy while minimising risk to the user.
The UAV also incorporates a dual ignition mechanism—both mechanical and electronic—to prevent accidental detonation in case of system failure or mission cancellation. If necessary, the drone can be recovered and stored for future use.
