The United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, continues to place human health and wellbeing at the forefront of its global humanitarian mission.
Through the ongoing Gallant Knight 3 initiative, the UAE has launched a series of integrated health programmes that reflect its deep commitment to delivering critical medical care to people in need, particularly in crisis-stricken regions such as Gaza.
One of the key pillars of this initiative is the establishment of the UAE Field Hospital in Gaza, a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity of 200 beds. The hospital is equipped with advanced surgical theatres, intensive care units, and emergency departments, and is staffed by a specialised, multinational team of healthcare professionals. Since opening, the hospital has treated more than 51,000 patients, with a particular focus on critical injuries and complex surgical procedures.
As part of its efforts to rehabilitate those who have suffered life-altering injuries, the UAE has also launched a targeted humanitarian programme to provide prosthetic limbs to amputees. This initiative aims to support patients in regaining mobility and restoring a sense of normalcy to their lives.
In addition, the UAE has delivered more than 750 tonnes of medical aid and pharmaceuticals to hospitals across Gaza. These shipments include vital medical equipment and power generators to ensure continuous delivery of healthcare services under challenging conditions.
Among its standout preventive healthcare campaigns, the UAE organised a large-scale polio vaccination drive, reaching over 640,000 children. This effort is part of the country’s broader goal to protect future generations from preventable, life-threatening diseases.
Recognising the urgency of certain medical cases, the UAE also undertook medical evacuation operations for patients in need of specialised care. More than 1,000 children and an additional 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza have been transferred to the UAE to receive advanced medical treatment, including surgeries, rehabilitation, and psychological support.
Complementing these ground efforts, the UAE deployed a floating field hospital off the coast of Arish, Egypt. This mobile facility, which holds up to 100 beds, is staffed by multidisciplinary medical teams specialising in general surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and critical care. To date, the floating hospital has received over 10,000 patients via the Rafah crossing, offering them emergency care and precision surgeries within a safe, high-standard medical environment.
Collectively, these initiatives exemplify the UAE’s unwavering belief that investing in health is a foundational step toward building resilient societies. They also highlight the nation’s enduring values of solidarity, compassion, and humanitarian leadership on the global stage.
