Taiwan’s Laser Initiative to Boost Military Capabilities

Taipei is gearing up to revolutionize its military capabilities through what it described as a “bold” investment in “future warfare,” by deploying a 50-kilowatt laser weapon system mounted on a vehicle, set to be unveiled by the end of this year.

The laser system has been installed on the CM-32 Clouded Leopard armoured vehicles, designed to intercept missiles and drones. Similar to Israel’s Iron Dome air defence mechanism, Taiwan’s project focuses on precision air risk mitigation while minimizing collateral damage.

The adoption of advanced laser technology is expected to significantly enhance Taiwan’s defensive posture against potential threats, providing a cost-effective and dependable countermeasure for contemporary combat challenges.
