Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

The thyroid gland is one of the vital organs in the body, as it produces hormones that regulate and maintain the balance of the metabolism. It also controls many processes within the body.

The German health portal “Gesundheitsinformation.de” stated that in the case of hypothyroidism, the thyroid cannot produce enough hormones, which slows down metabolism.

This leaves one feeling lethargic, tired and unmotivated. Additionally, patients may experience decreased heart rate, constipation as well as concentration and memory disorders.

Symptoms and Causes

Symptoms of hypothyroidism include slight to moderate weight gain, dry and falling hair, enlarged tongue and thyroid gland, hearing impairment, reduced fertility and irregular menstrual cycles, and sexual dysfunction in men.

The causes of hypothyroidism include thyroid inflammation or removal, radiation therapy, iodine deficiency, certain medications, or hereditary hypothyroidism.

Diagnoses

Blood tests help in hypothyroidism diagnoses by measuring thyroid hormones and determining the thyroid-stimulating hormone level. Doctors then supplement the hormone deficiency to restore levels to normal and if taken at the right dosage, these supplements cause no side effects.
