Germany has begun operating the first TRL-4D LR, developed by HENSOLDT, as part of a programme to modernise the German Air Force’s early warning network.
The radar is based on active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology, providing advanced capabilities to detect and track missiles, stealth aircraft, and unmanned aerial systems, while offering a high level of resistance to electronic jamming.
Berlin plans to deploy four TRL-4D LR systems by 2030 to strengthen the country’s air defence capabilities and reinforce the early warning network of NATO. The programme reflects a broader European effort to develop a more capable and independent air defence architecture to address evolving aerial threats.
