The French Navy has conducted the first at-sea tests of the Rampart multi-purpose launch system, developed by Naval Group, during the WILDFIRE 26.2 counter-drone exercise off the coast of Toulon.
The trials involved firing 68mm unguided rockets produced by Thales against a surface target, as well as a guided rocket of the same calibre to intercept an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The seeker of Poland’s Piorun missile also successfully tracked and locked onto the target without launching the missile.
Designed to integrate different types of munitions, the Rampart system offers a flexible solution for countering both aerial and surface threats. Naval Group plans to conduct further trials, including testing the system in the UAE in integration with EDGE Group’s SkyKnight system, as well as additional trials in Belgium.
