Saab AB has introduced the new Bolide 2 for its RBS 70 NG, designed to counter unmanned aerial systems and other low-altitude aerial threats.
The Bolide 2 retains the system’s laser beam-riding guidance, which is highly resistant to electronic jamming, while incorporating several enhancements, including a more powerful warhead, increased fragmentation density, an upgraded navigation unit, and a more precise proximity fuze. These improvements significantly enhance the missile’s effectiveness against small, fast-moving targets.
The missile has an engagement range of approximately 9 kilometres and an operational ceiling of 5 kilometres, with deliveries to customers scheduled to begin in 2027. The development reflects the growing emphasis on strengthening short-range air defence capabilities to counter evolving aerial threats.
