Block-I Laser System: South Korea’s Anti-Drones Breakthrough

Developed by South Korea’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), the Block-I laser system is designed to neutralise drones.

This system stands out for its low operational costs, with each shot costing just $1.50.

The Block-I system was developed over five years with an investment of more than $63 million, and it successfully passed live-fire tests with a 100% success rate in destroying its targets.

Moreover, the system’s effectiveness lies in its rapid ability to take down drones, which, despite being cheaply purchased online, have proven capable of causing significant damage to expensive military equipment like tanks.

This makes the development of cost-effective and efficient defence systems increasingly essential.
