UAE Pavilion Concludes Successful Participation at Marrakech Air Show 2024

The UAE National Pavilion recently concluded its remarkable participation in the seventh edition of the Marrakech International Air Show, held at the military air base in Marrakech, Morocco, from October 30 to November 2, 2024, under the banner of “Excellence and Innovation.”

Wide Attendance and Interest 

Throughout the four-day event, the UAE pavilion attracted extensive interest from participants, official delegations, international and local officials, and visitors. Attendees were introduced to the UAE’s achievements and pioneering contributions in the defence and security industries, underscoring its active role in shaping the future of these sectors.

Strategic Platform for Defence Innovation 

Organised by the Emirates Defence Companies Council, with support from the UAE Ministry of Defence and Tawazun Council, the national pavilion provided a strategic platform for local companies specialising in defence to showcase their advanced products and technologies. This event also enabled direct engagement with government representatives and global corporations.

Spotlight on Emirati Expertise 

The pavilion hosted nine specialised Emirati defence companies covering various sectors, including aerial systems and advanced technologies. Notable participants included EDGE Group subsidiaries—ADASI, Al Tariq, Advanced Concepts, HALCON, LAHAB, and CARACAL—along with VENTURE ONE, Calidus Aviation, and K-Technologies.

Royal Patronage

The Marrakech International Air Show took place under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and was organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with Morocco’s National Defence Administration and with support from the Royal Moroccan Air Force.

Renowned as one of the leading global platforms emerging from Africa, the show brought together top companies and experts from around the world to exhibit the latest innovations and advancements in aviation, aerospace, and defence to explore the latest trends in the sector and showcase the expertise of the exhibitors.

Focus on Innovation and Excellence

This year’s show emphasised innovation and modern technology, dedicating space to start-ups and research and development projects. One highlight included the presentation of the first AH-64E Apache helicopter, part of an agreement with Boeing to deliver 24 units to Morocco.

Enhancing Partnerships and Exploring Trends 

Mona Ahmed Al-Jaber, Chairwoman of the Emirates Defence Companies Council, stressed the significance of participating in international defence and aviation events. She stated, “The Marrakech International Air Show offers an ideal platform for establishing new partnerships and exploring the latest trends and technology with prominent players in the aviation industry. Since its inception in 2008, the show has achieved remarkable growth, solidifying its standing as one of the premier global exhibitions in the aviation and aerospace field.”

She added, “Our participation reflects the council’s strategy to strengthen international relationships and exchange expertise with various stakeholders. This exhibition provides an opportunity for UAE defence companies to connect with global counterparts and showcase the latest aviation and defence innovations.”

Al-Jaber reiterated the council’s commitment to supporting local industrial entities in expanding internationally and enhancing their reputation in defence industries.

Strategic Presence for Calidus 

Dr Khalifa Al Balushi, CEO of Calidus, who participated under the UAE pavilion, underscored the role of the Emirates Defence Companies Council in supporting overseas engagements.

“Participating in international exhibitions like this enhances our global presence and helps forge new strategic partnerships. The council’s support drives our ability to present our advanced defence products and technologies, contributing to our business expansion and competitive advantage,” he stated.

Unprecedented Participation and Spectacular Aerial Displays 

The 2024 edition of the Marrakech International Air Show spanned 12,500 square metres, featuring over 200 exhibitors and 75 official delegations. The event saw record participation following a five-year hiatus, with the last show held in 2018 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Highlights included exceptional aerial displays and a high-profile programme of seminars and discussions focused on emerging trends and strategic issues facing the sector.

High-Level Opening Ceremony 

Lieutenant General Issa Saif bin Ablan Al Mazrouei, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, inaugurated the show, touring the exhibition to observe the latest technologies in aviation and aerospace presented by major companies. During the event, he met with the Inspector General of the Moroccan Armed Forces, General Mohamed Bariz, to discuss avenues for bolstering bilateral military and defence cooperation to further mutual interests.

Since its launch in 2008, the Marrakech International Air Show has become an increasingly influential event, solidifying Morocco’s position as a prominent global aviation hub. With a strategic geographic location, advanced infrastructure, and significant investments in technology, Morocco now serves as a vital regional centre for aviation, aerospace, and defence industries.
