Pentagon Tests First Fully Autonomous Ship

The USX-1 Defiant, the first fully autonomous ship developed by the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has entered its testing phase. This marks a significant milestone for the No Manning Required Ship program, designed to enable long-duration autonomous naval operations without human intervention.

Unlike traditional warships, the USX-1 Defiant eliminates the need for crew accommodations, such as sleeping quarters, kitchens, or life-support equipment. This innovative design maximizes available space for mission payloads while significantly reducing construction and operational costs.

Engineered for hydrodynamic efficiency, operational stealth, and adaptability, the ship is built to withstand challenging environmental conditions and potential threats.
