The Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference, SOFEX 2026, continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading specialised defence exhibitions, leveraging the strategic standing of Jordan and its pivotal role in advancing regional security and international defence cooperation.

As the defence and security landscape evolves at an unprecedented pace, SOFEX has become a key platform bringing together military leaders, decision-makers, industry experts, and global defence companies to examine emerging technologies, future threats, and strategic partnerships. In this context, Al Jundi Journal interviewed Eng. Ayman Al-Batran, Acting CEO of SOFEX 2026, to discuss the objectives of the upcoming edition, the latest technologies and live demonstrations, and the exhibition’s role in supporting defence cooperation and technology transfer, as well as his vision for the future of special operations and homeland security.
As Acting CEO of SOFEX 2026, what are the key objectives and strategic priorities for the upcoming edition, and how will it build upon the success of previous events?
Our primary objective for SOFEX 2026 is to further strengthen the exhibition’s position as one of the world’s leading platforms dedicated to special operations forces, homeland security, and advanced defence technologies. We are focused on creating an environment that encourages strategic dialogue, operational collaboration, and meaningful business engagement between governments, armed forces, and defence companies. Building on the success of previous editions, SOFEX 2026 will place greater emphasis on emerging technologies, live operational demonstrations, and high-level international participation. We are also expanding opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange to ensure the exhibition remains highly relevant to the evolving global security landscape.
Jordan has established itself as a regional hub for defence and security collaboration. How does SOFEX 2026 support Jordan’s vision in advancing international defence partnerships and regional security dialogue?
Jordan has long played a significant role in promoting regional stability, security cooperation, and international dialogue. SOFEX 2026 directly supports this vision by bringing together defence leaders, military officials, industry experts, and policymakers from across the world under one platform. The exhibition enables countries and organisations to exchange expertise, discuss common security challenges, and strengthen defence partnerships. Jordan’s strategic location, professional military capabilities, and strong international relationships make it an ideal venue for fostering constructive defence diplomacy and collaborative security initiatives.

What new features, technology sectors, or live demonstration programs can visitors and exhibitors expect to see at SOFEX 2026 compared to earlier editions?
SOFEX 2026 returns to Aqaba with new features enhancing defence engagement and public participation. The event introduces the new Elite Badge, offering premium access for industry professionals. For the first time, the MESOC Conference will be open to public attendees. Visitors can experience advanced VR tactical simulations, including a laser shooting range and Kill House. A dedicated Cybersecurity Zone will showcase the latest digital defence technologies and solutions. SOFEX 2026 will also launch a digital matchmaking platform connecting exhibitors, investors, and delegates. New international pavilions and participating countries will further expand the event’s global presence. The exhibition space has been significantly enlarged to accommodate growing international demand.
Special operations and homeland security requirements continue to evolve rapidly. In your view, what are the most important trends shaping the future of special operations forces and defence capabilities globally?
One of the most important trends shaping the future of defence is the increasing integration of advanced technologies into military and security operations. Artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, cyber defence, and real-time intelligence capabilities are becoming essential components of modern warfare. At the same time, special operations forces are required to operate in increasingly complex and hybrid threat environments, which demand greater speed, flexibility, and interoperability. Homeland security agencies are also focusing heavily on border protection, critical infrastructure security, and counter-drone technologies. Future defence capabilities will rely heavily on multi-domain integration and rapid decision-making supported by advanced data and communication systems.
SOFEX has become a major platform for international defence companies and government delegations. How important is the exhibition in fostering business opportunities, technology transfer, and strategic cooperation within the defence industry?
SOFEX plays a vital role in connecting defence manufacturers, government entities, military procurement officials, and technology providers from around the world. The exhibition serves as a valuable platform for companies to showcase their latest products and capabilities directly to decision-makers and operational users. It also supports discussions related to technology transfer, industrial cooperation, joint ventures, and localisation initiatives, particularly within the Middle East region. Beyond business opportunities, SOFEX contributes to strengthening long-term strategic partnerships and encourages collaborative approaches to addressing modern defence and security challenges.

Cybersecurity, AI-enabled systems, unmanned platforms, and integrated defence solutions are increasingly influencing modern operations. How is SOFEX 2026 adapting its exhibition and conference agenda to reflect these emerging technologies?
SOFEX 2026 is placing strong emphasis on the technologies that are transforming the future of defence and security operations. Dedicated exhibition sectors and conference discussions will focus on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, digital warfare, and integrated command technologies. We are also encouraging greater participation from innovative technology companies, research institutions, and startups contributing to next-generation defence solutions. Through expert-led panel discussions and live demonstrations, participants will gain valuable insight into how these technologies are reshaping military operations, enhancing situational awareness, and improving operational efficiency across multiple domains.
Could you share your expectations regarding international participation, official delegations, and exhibitor presence at SOFEX 2026, particularly from the Middle East and global defence markets?
We are expecting very strong international participation including seven new countries at SOFEX 2026 from both regional and global defence markets. The Middle East continues to be one of the most active and strategically important defence sectors worldwide, attracting significant interest from leading international defence companies. We also anticipate participation from Europe, North America, Asia, and other key global markets, along with high-level official delegations and senior military representatives. The continued growth of SOFEX reflects its strong international reputation as a trusted platform for defence collaboration, innovation, and strategic engagement.
What message would you like to convey to defence industry leaders, exhibitors, and official delegations worldwide regarding the importance of participating in SOFEX 2026 in Jordan?
My message to defence industry leaders and official delegations worldwide is that SOFEX 2026 offers a unique opportunity to engage with key defence stakeholders, explore emerging technologies, and participate in meaningful discussions about the future of global security. The exhibition is more than a commercial event; it is a strategic platform for collaboration, innovation, and partnership development. Jordan provides a secure, welcoming, and strategically important environment for international defence engagement, and we look forward to welcoming participants from around the world to another successful edition of SOFEX 2026.
