Supported by a sophisticated digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and an integrated national health information network, the country’s digital transformation is improving healthcare quality, enhancing service efficiency, accelerating access to treatment and advancing a data-driven model of patient care.
Harnessing Advanced Technologies
The UAE’s digital health ecosystem integrates advanced technologies across every stage of healthcare delivery, from online appointment booking and telemedicine consultations to electronic health records and AI-powered clinical decision support.
Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to assist with diagnosis, analyse medical data and support healthcare professionals in making informed treatment decisions, contributing to higher standards of care and improved operational efficiency.
As part of this transformation, the Ministry of Health and Prevention has launched Riayati, the UAE’s unified national medical record platform, which enables the secure exchange of health information between medical facilities across the country. The platform provides healthcare professionals with immediate access to patients’ medical histories, supports continuity of care and helps reduce unnecessary diagnostic tests and duplicate medical procedures, ultimately improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare services.
The Emirates Health Services (EHS) also operates the Wareed electronic health record system across its hospitals and healthcare facilities. Integrated with the Riayati platform, Wareed facilitates seamless and secure sharing of medical information while ensuring the highest standards of quality, privacy and interoperability.
At the emirate level, Abu Dhabi has established its health information exchange through the Malaffi platform, while Dubai has developed the NABIDH system. Both platforms are connected to Riayati, creating a nationwide network of interoperable electronic health records that strengthens continuity of care, improves treatment efficiency and supports data-driven clinical decision-making.
The UAE has also expanded its portfolio of smart healthcare services, enabling patients to access a wide range of services digitally, including appointment scheduling, prescription management, sick leave certification, access to personal medical records and laboratory test results. These services provide a faster and more convenient patient experience while enhancing the efficiency of healthcare delivery.
Expanding Digital Healthcare
Digital health has played a key role in expanding telemedicine services across the UAE, allowing patients to receive medical consultations and follow-up care remotely in many cases without the need to visit healthcare facilities. This has improved continuity of care, optimised the use of healthcare resources and expanded access to medical services.
Artificial intelligence has emerged as one of the primary drivers of the country’s healthcare transformation. AI technologies are being used to analyse medical images, support early disease detection, predict potential health complications and process large-scale medical datasets. These capabilities are advancing precision medicine, improving diagnostic accuracy and enabling more personalised healthcare tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
By 2026, the UAE’s digital health ecosystem has evolved into a fully integrated framework built on interconnected electronic health records, artificial intelligence, smart healthcare services and telemedicine. The integration of Riayati, Malaffi, NABIDH and the Wareed system has established a comprehensive national health information network that enhances secure data exchange, supports evidence-based clinical decision-making, improves healthcare efficiency and strengthens the sector’s readiness to achieve the objectives of the We the UAE 2031 vision.
