EDGE, the UAE-based advanced technology and defence group, and the Brazilian Army, through its Cyber Defence Command (ComDCiber), are set to establish a Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, which will become the first institution of its kind in Latin America to operate under a tripartite model bringing together government, industry and academia.
The initiative reflects a strategic and equal commitment by the two organisations to establish a permanent institution based on international best practices, addressing Brazil’s cybersecurity requirements while contributing to the wider region.
The founding partners will provide direct investment in the centre, reinforcing their commitment to its operational effectiveness, institutional independence and long-term sustainability.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of EDGE, said that cyber resilience requires long-term cooperation between government entities, industry and academia. He noted that the partnership reflects EDGE’s commitment to this approach, adding that the company has a proven track record in delivering sovereign cyber capabilities in complex and critical environments.
He said the centre would draw on this experience to support Brazil’s ambitions by combining advanced technologies, operational expertise and shared knowledge to build sustainable capabilities and strengthen Brazil’s position as a leading hub for cyber excellence in Latin America.
The Centre of Excellence will provide specialised services to all Brazilian Armed Forces and federal institutions. These services will include professional training, development and certification; cyber incident response and digital forensics; strategic cybersecurity advisory services; research and development in cyber defence doctrine and capabilities; the planning and execution of national and regional exercises; and the development of advanced cyber defence capabilities and solutions.
Drawing on international best practices, including NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, the centre aims to establish Brazil as a regional benchmark for sovereign cybersecurity excellence.
It will also seek to develop affiliation, cooperation and recognition arrangements with international cybersecurity organisations, further integrating Brazil into the global cybersecurity community.
