Russia develops smart parachutes equipped with GPS systems

Technodinamika, a subsidiary of Russia’s Rostec Corporation, has announced the development of new smart parachutes equipped with GPS systems.

Technodinamika obtained a new patent for a new smart parachute system, equipped with global GLONASS and GPS satellite positioning systems, equipped with global GLONASS and GPS satellite positioning systems, that allows cargo and loads to be dropped in specific places and automatically

These parachutes will be able to automatically drop payloads in specific places, and the error rate in locating the landing place will not exceed 100 m. Systems have also been developed to help parachutes drop payloads of up to 500 kg.

The new parachute systems are undergoing flight tests and design verification tests. By the end of 2022 it is scheduled to transfer the prototypes of these parachutes to the Flight Test Center of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
