The Chinese Armed Forces have recently tested the new Type 625E short-range air defence system to bolster their defence network. Unveiled in 2022, this system addresses vulnerabilities in China’s air defence strategy.
The Type 625E system integrates a 25mm six-barrel Gatling gun with FN-16 missiles. The FN-16 missiles offer a range of up to 6 kilometres, while the FB-10 variants can hit targets up to 10 kilometres away. The system is mounted on a mobile platform, enabling rapid deployment.
Using a combination of radar and electro-optical systems, the Type 625E can track low-altitude objects and missiles. The onboard fire control system tracks targets, calculates trajectories, and guides the gun and missiles to intercept them.
