Fincantieri Launches “Ugolino Vivaldi” for Italian Navy

Italy has launched the Ugolino Vivaldi, the first unit of its next-generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) programme, at Fincantieri shipyard. The project is managed by Orizzonte Sistemi Navali in partnership with Leonardo.

The 95-metre vessel, with a displacement of 2,400 tonnes, features an Integrated Naval Cockpit that allows just two operators to control most of its systems. Powered by a CODLAD propulsion system, the ship can reach speeds exceeding 24 knots and has a range of 3,500 nautical miles. It is armed with a 76/62 mm gun and remote-controlled weapon systems.

Designed for maritime surveillance and protection of Italian interests in the Mediterranean, the Ugolino Vivaldi is capable of countering smuggling and piracy, while integrating seamlessly into combat formations.
