Laser weapons have emerged as an advanced solution for countering unmanned aerial vehicles, using high-energy beams to disable drones within seconds without relying on conventional ammunition.
Ukraine’s “SunRay” laser system operates through precise optical tracking and thermal cameras to detect and identify targets before directing a concentrated beam at vulnerable نقاط such as the engine or battery, rapidly bringing the drone down.
The system offers several key advantages, including low operating costs, rapid response times, and near-silent operation, making it well suited for the protection of cities, critical infrastructure, and strategic facilities.
Although its performance can be affected by adverse weather conditions, the weapon reflects a broader shift towards modern defence systems based on directed energy rather than traditional missile interceptors.
