The US-based Lockheed Martin has announced the start of delivery of the first units of the “Long Range Hypersonic Weapon” (LRHW) system to the US Military.
The missile passed every test and is set to be the first American hypersonic missile to enter service.
The missile’s huge range of 2700 km will make it a strong deterrent, and its speed of Mach 18 will enable it to strike distant targets.
The system which can strike ships will be deployed in Japan and Australia.
Furthermore, The Philippines have agreed to deploy it and India is expected to do so as well.
The LRHW system can hit targets over a thousand miles away and its marine version named “Conventional Prompt Strike” (CPS), can fire from submarines or ships at sea.
