American Rheinmetall has delivered the first of eight prototypes of the new XM30 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle to the US Army as part of the programme to replace the ageing M2 Bradley fleet.
The prototype will undergo developmental and performance testing under a contract valued at approximately $764 million. The XM30 is a fully integrated digital combat vehicle designed to operate in environments characterised by the widespread use of drones, precision weapons and electronic warfare.
Based on a modular design and open architecture, the vehicle is designed to accommodate future technologies. It also features a hybrid-electric propulsion system to improve energy efficiency and manoeuvrability, along with a secure communications network that enhances battlefield awareness and provides greater protection for both the crew and infantry.
