Heckler & Koch has announced its latest creation, the HK 421 machine gun equipped with the NATO calibre 7.62 mm × 51 chamber.
Despite limited information about the machine gun, it has been confirmed that the HK 421 operates on a direct gas impingement system with a rotating bolt mechanism. The machine gun will be available in various barrel lengths to suit different operational requirements.
The HK 421 also offers multiple options for shoulder stocks, including the option used in the HK 416 or the telescopic alternative. The weapon weighs just over 8 kg, making it lighter by 2 to 3 kg compared to the infantry version of the MG5, another product from Heckler & Koch.
