Vaccination Against Hepatitis A Essential Before Holiday Season

The German Liver Foundation has recommended getting vaccinated against Hepatitis A before travelling during the summer, especially when visiting Central and South America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern European countries.

The foundation explained that Hepatitis A can be contracted during travel through contaminated food and direct contact with infected individuals.

Moreover, it noted that the incubation period for Hepatitis A is relatively long, ranging from two to six weeks.

Furthermore, the foundation stated that while the condition usually resolves without complications, it can cause permanent liver damage.

Symptoms

The symptoms of Hepatitis A, also known as “traveller’s jaundice,” include abdominal pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, and a general feeling of fatigue.

To prevent Hepatitis A while travelling, it is important to adhere to health precautions. This includes consuming only packaged food and drinks and ensuring that food is thoroughly cooked to eliminate germs.
