New Weapon Sinks Ships Within Seconds

The United States has unveiled the QUICKSINK system, a capability that transforms conventional bombs into precision-guided munitions capable of rapidly sinking naval vessels.

The system is based on JDAM technology and incorporates an additional seeker unit to accurately identify maritime targets, including moving ships at sea.

QUICKSINK demonstrated its effectiveness during the RIMPAC 2024 exercises, where it successfully sank target vessels by striking them below the waterline, a method designed to maximise structural damage and accelerate sinking.

The weapon offers a significantly lower-cost alternative compared with torpedoes and anti-ship missiles, while maintaining compatibility with aircraft such as the F-35A Lightning II and B-2 Spirit. It represents a complementary option that enhances naval strike capabilities with high efficiency and operational flexibility.
