China has unveiled the new Yitian II during SAHA 2026 in Istanbul. The system is designed to counter unmanned aerial systems, precision-guided munitions, and other low-altitude aerial threats.
The Yitian II combines three-dimensional surveillance radars, an AESA radar, electro-optical sensors, and eight TY-20 interceptors with a range of up to 20 kilometres, enabling it to independently detect, track, and engage incoming targets. The system can travel at speeds exceeding 100 km/h and has a reaction time of less than seven seconds, making it well suited to accompanying frontline ground forces.
The new system reflects China’s continued efforts to strengthen its tactical air defence capabilities while expanding its presence in the global market for short-range air defence (SHORAD) systems.
