Russia’s defence industry has announced the start of initial trials for the new Krona air defence system, designed to counter the growing threat of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and loitering munitions operating at very low altitudes.
The system employs artificial intelligence-based guidance to analyse target trajectories and select the most suitable weapon for engagement, reducing operator workload and accelerating response times in complex combat environments.
Krona is intended to protect high-value assets such as tanks, howitzers, and command centres from drone attacks, which have demonstrated the ability to disrupt and immobilise entire armoured formations.
