South Korea Unveils Desert Version of K2 Black Panther Tank

South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem has unveiled the K2ME, a desert-adapted variant of the K2 Black Panther main battle tank, designed for optimal performance in harsh Middle Eastern environments.

The upgraded platform includes enhancements to the cooling system and engine to withstand high temperatures, along with an improved air conditioning system to ensure stable operation of onboard electronics.

The tank retains its 120 mm main gun and an advanced fire control system, in addition to the KAPS active protection system designed to intercept incoming threats. Positioned as a relatively cost-effective solution with strong export potential and options for local production, the K2ME strengthens South Korea’s role in the global defence market and expands its influence in evolving regional defence dynamics.
