China has conducted successful initial tests of the Changying-8 (CY-8) giant unmanned aircraft, designed as an advanced autonomous air cargo platform.
The aircraft features a payload capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes and a range exceeding 3,000 km, placing it among the most capable unmanned cargo aircraft globally. It relies on advanced navigation systems and artificial intelligence to handle take-off, flight, and collision avoidance without human intervention.
The development reflects China’s push towards civil-military integration and the advancement of smart logistics. It also provides the capability to support humanitarian and military operations in remote areas, reinforcing the concept of “logistical sovereignty” and strengthening Beijing’s position in the autonomous aviation sector.
