Russia Converts Geran-2 into FPV Drone Carrier

Russia has transformed the Geran-2 loitering munition into a launch platform for FPV drones, marking a notable development in long-range strike tactics.

The concept relies on using the drone’s extended operational range to transport short-range FPV drones before releasing them near the target area, where they can then be guided with precision against moving and high-value targets.

This modification creates a significant challenge for air defence systems, as the smaller drones can be deployed before the main carrier platform is intercepted. It also enables the integration of reconnaissance and strike functions into a single operation, while reducing the opponent’s rear-area safety zones.

The innovation reflects a growing shift towards low-cost, high-effectiveness combat systems that could reshape the future of air defence concepts and modern warfare.
